09/01/2015 - Orioles eliminate Red Sox

TIMMINS - The Orioles eliminated the Red Sox and earned a berth into the Timmins Men’s Baseball League finals Monday night.

Mike Barber and Marc-Andre Lavoie slammed home runs to lead the Orioles to a 13-10 win over the Red Sox in Game 4 of their best-of-five semifinal series at Fred Salvador Field.

Trailing the series 2-1 heading into Monday night’s contest, the Red Sox appeared to be in good shape after scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-4 lead.

That is the way things stood entering the top of the sixth inning when the Orioles exploded to take a 12-10 lead.

Colin Beach singled to lead off the top of the sixth for the Orioles and advanced to second base on a James Daschuk single.

Mario Fillion followed with a double to drive in Beach and Eric Paquette drew a walk to load the bases.

Lavoie then stepped to the plate and delivered a grand slam to plate four more runs.

With five runs already in and still no outs registered, Barber was hit by a pitch.

He moved up to second base as David Tambeau reached on a Red Sox error, but was then retired for the inning’s first out as Joey Chartrand reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Pat Durepos reached on an error to load the bases and one out later Daschuk delivered a three-run double to knock in the final three Oriole runs of the inning.

The Orioles added another insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, as Lavoie reached on an error and Barber and Tambeau singled to load the bases.

Durepos then drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run and chalk up an RBI, making the final 13-10.

The Orioles drew first blood in the contest, plating a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.

Paquette singled, stole second base and then advanced to third base on a ground out.

Barber followed with a single to drive him in with the game’s first run.

After Barber stole second base, he came around to score on a Red Sox error.

The Red Sox responded with three runs in their half of the frame, to take a 3-2 advantage.

Eric Comtois and Brent Cleverdon singled to get things started.

Eryk Rice made it three-straight one-base hits, as he knocked in Comtois with the first Red Sox run but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

Sheldon Lacroix added a fourth single and Greg Therrien was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Randy Rice grounded out, but Cleverdon came in to score the Red Sox second run on the play.
