Timmins Men's Baseball League

08/26/2015 - Jacks edge Brewers

TIMMINS - It was an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel but it was what Whiskey Jacks hurler Chris Greer did at the plate that proved key to his team’s 3-2 win over the Brewers Tuesday night at Fred Salvador Field.

Greer came to the plate in the bottom of the third inning with the Whiskey Jacks up 1-0, Jamie Dagenais on second base and two outs.

He then proceeded to drill Kevin Furtney’s first pitch deep over the outfield fence and just inside the left field foul poll for a two-run homer to increase the Whiskey Jacks lead to 3-0.

The victory gave the Whiskey Jacks a 1-0 lead in their best-of-five Timmins Men’s Baseball League semifinal series.

The Whiskey Jacks had an opportunity to add to their 1-0 advantage earlier in the inning, but Brewers right fielder Benjamin Aube threw out Whiskey Jacks lead-off hitter Jamie Dallaire at the plate as he attempted to score on Dagenais’ single.

The Brewers responded with a pair of runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning, but they could not push across the tying run.

Short stop Steven Morgan got things going when he singled to lead off the inning.

He was able to move up to third base when Furtney followed with a double.

Andrew Alexander then followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Morgan with the Brewers first run of the inning.

One out later, David Chantigny singled to drive in Furtney but Greer escaped further damage when he struck out Nathan Hookimaw.

Neither the Whiskey Jacks or the Brewers were able to add to their run totals over the final three innings of the contest as both Greer and Furtney continued to throw strikes.
